The community of Veribest is eleven miles east of San Angelo, in eastern Tom Green County. The town was originally known as Mullins, but the name was changed in 1926 when locals requested a post office. Another town in the state had the same name. However, in the 1930s, the community began to grow. In the meantime, a grocery store was established. Sue Rister chose to name the town after the type of mayonnaise sold at her store. She believed that it was a catchy name.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the population of Veribest was around 100. But the war changed the town’s population, and many residents were forced to leave the area for employment.
